REVERSE is an opt-in way to play Cultivation with the whole ladder turned upside down. A Reverse cultivator earns nothing from the things everyone else earns from: kills, wealth, duel wins and rival bounties all leave a stain called taint, and enough taint burns your banked Qi and then costs you realms. What raises you instead is what the orthodox path throws away — meditating with nothing to your name, giving your possessions to other players as alms, and losing duels on purpose.

It is one profile, not a server mode. `/reverse begin` creates a new Reverse-flagged profile in one of your own profile slots; every other profile on the server, yours included, plays Cultivation exactly as before. There is no separate progression system installed and no realm table replaced — REVERSE steers the base mod's own realms and Qi through its public event API, so a Reverse cultivator still breaks through, still holds titles, still stands on the same leaderboards.

Worth knowing before you buy: a profile slot already governed by another progression system (Soul Rings, or Endless Leveling's race sync) cannot begin a Reverse profile, and the addon says so rather than half-starting. Reverse is a full-time commitment for that profile — there is no way back to normal progression on it short of deleting it.

At a glance

  • Opt-in per profile via `/reverse begin`: every other profile on the server is untouched
  • Taint from kills, hoarded wealth and duel wins burns banked Qi, then costs realms — never below one realm under your best
  • Poverty meditation, alms to other players and deliberate defeat are the only ways up
  • Bloodstained Hands: up to five stacks of penalties for player kills, wearing off over hours
  • Every faucet the base mod offers is closed for a Reverse profile — duel wagers, oath stakes, rival bounties

How you fall

Three things stain a Reverse cultivator, and each is a number in the config.

  • Slaughter: every kill adds taint scaled by the victim's max health. A victim who struck you in the last eight seconds counts as self-defense and costs a fraction of the usual taint. NPC roles can be exempted by id.
  • Hoarding: once a minute your hotbar, storage, open auction listings and unclaimed parcels are priced against a value table (Spirit Stones, Spirit, Profound and Divine Cores, Spirit Beast Eggs by default). Holding more than the wealth threshold adds taint in proportion to how far over it you are, capped per audit.
  • Blood: a duel win or a player kill adds a large lump of taint and a stack of Bloodstained Hands. Each stack lasts half an hour, at most five stack at once, and together they cut your Qi gain, dull your damage, thin your skin and make rituals harder — interpolated by stack count, tunable at both ends.
  • Taint decays on its own by the wall clock, a few points an hour, whether you are online or not.

What taint does to you

  • Taint first burns banked Qi one for one. Only once your Qi is gone does it start costing realms.
  • Each realm lost consumes taint equal to the Qi that rung would have cost to reach — a deep backslide is expensive, a shallow one cheap, on the base mod's own curve rather than a second constant.
  • There is a mercy floor: one realm below the highest you have ever reached on that profile. Pinned there, you are Dust-Bound — you cannot fall further, but meditation merit is halved until you climb clear of it.
  • `/reverse ledger` shows your taint, banked Qi, Bloodstained stacks and time remaining, your high-water realm, your backslide count and today's merit caps. The same numbers appear on Cultivation's Overview page under Constitution.

How you rise

Three sources of merit, all with anti-farm gates that are numbers in the config rather than assumptions in the code.

  • Poverty meditation is the main faucet. Meditating while your priced wealth is at or under the poverty threshold banks Qi, scaled from a quarter share at the rich end to one-and-a-half times at destitute, and doubled again if your inventory is completely empty. Meditating while rich earns nothing and adds a little taint per tick.
  • Alms: `/reverse alms <player>` gives the stack in your hand to an online player for merit based on its value, at full rate only once you have given to several distinct people in the last day. A daily value cap, a per-recipient cooldown, a fresh-alt gate on how long the recipient has been online, and a boomerang window that claws the merit back if the gift comes straight back to you.
  • Defeat: losing a duel — by death, or by `/reverse concede` — pays merit scaled by how much stronger your opponent was, at full rate once you have lost to several distinct opponents in a day. A rolling daily cap tied to your current realm's Qi cost and a per-opponent cooldown stop two friends trading losses, and conceding burns a quarter of your banked Qi so it is never free.

What is closed

REVERSE closes every way the base mod hands out Qi other than the three above.

  • The Qi faucet itself: every gain the base mod would credit — mob kills, pills, cores, events — is cancelled for a Reverse profile, and only the addon's own merit and poverty meditation may pass.
  • Duel wagers are skipped when either side is Reverse-flagged, so a wager is never a way to launder Qi into or out of a Reverse profile.
  • Heavenly Oath wagered-duel stakes are forced to zero at the moment the oath is sworn. The oath still binds; there is simply nothing for it to transfer.
  • Wandering Rival bounties are clawed back the instant they are paid, with a message saying so.

For server owners

  • One config file, grouped by section — poverty, wealth, slaughter, PvP, alms, defeat — with an explanatory line at the top of each. Every threshold, multiplier, cap, cooldown and window is there.
  • A Players-tab row on Cultivation's admin panel (Reverse Ledger: Inspect / Reset) for looking at or clearing a player's ledger without leaving the game.
  • All five of Cultivation's locales ship: English, Simplified Chinese, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian and Ukrainian.

What it needs

  • Cultivation 0.10.2 or newer — the manifest will stop an install on anything older.
  • Hytale Update 6 (Server API 0.6.x).
  • Server-side only. Your players install nothing.

Version history

    • Built against Hytale Server API 0.6.2, the Update 6 release line. Requires Cultivation 0.10.2 or newer.
    • Opt-in Reverse-flagged profiles via `/reverse begin`, independent per profile slot.
    • Taint from kills, hoarded wealth and duel wins; Bloodstained Hands stacks for player kills; a mercy floor one realm under your best.
    • Merit from poverty meditation, alms and deliberate defeat, each with its own anti-farm gates.
    • Duel wagers, oath stakes and rival bounties closed for Reverse profiles.
    • Full config, admin panel row, and all five locales.
