Cultivation: Rubber Duck

The eleventh Dao nobody asked for. It beats every element unconditionally, and none beats it back.

  • v0.2.0 · latest

Somewhere off both the classic and shadow elemental rings sits one more root: the Duck Dao, a joke eleventh element wired into the exact same off-ring registry every real Dao root uses. It unconditionally counters every classic and shadow element in combat and is countered by none — the price of standing entirely outside both rings — with its own configurable counter-cycle bonus, 5% by default.

Nobody picks Duck from a menu. Kill a vanilla Duck NPC (role id Duck, never the quest-only Temple Duck) and it has a rare chance — 3% by default — to drop a Carved Wooden Duck: carved, not rubber, since no such toy exists in this world. Its Secondary interaction claims the Dao through the exact same DaoManager.choose chokepoint every other Dao pick in Cultivation goes through — same costs, same cooldowns, same refusal messages, only Duck-flavored. The duck only leaves your hand on a successful claim; every refusal (wrong realm, on cooldown, not enough Qi, already Duck) leaves it right where it was.

Two Duck-locked techniques come with the Dao: Duck's Peck, a radial bill-strike burst that damages everyone within a short radius, and Furious Waddle, a short forward hop along your own line of sight. Both scale with your realm, and both quack — literally, using the vanilla Duck's own alert-quack sound cue.

Walking the Duck Dao forces Duck Pond onto you: a saturated, rubber-duck-yellow reskin of all 139 of Cultivation's current UI documents, applied automatically and un-choosable from the theme dropdown for as long as your chosen Dao is Duck. A cosmetic feather-and-quack trail follows any Duck Dao cultivator who is also in a Sect, re-pulsed every 4 seconds and respecting the base mod's own aura visibility settings.

At a glance

  • An off-ring Duck Dao root, unconditionally countering every classic and shadow element and countered by none — with its own tunable counter-cycle bonus (5% by default)
  • A rare drop (3% by default) from vanilla Duck NPCs, never the quest-only Temple Duck — a Legendary Carved Wooden Duck, consumed only on a successful claim
  • Two Duck-locked techniques: Duck's Peck (a radial bill-strike burst) and Furious Waddle (a short forward hop), both using the vanilla Duck's own alert quack
  • Duck Pond: a forced, saturated rubber-duck-yellow reskin of all 139 of Cultivation's current UI documents, locked in for as long as you walk Duck
  • A cosmetic feather-and-quack follower for Duck Dao cultivators who are also in a Sect
  • One admin section, four settings live without a restart: master toggle, counter bonus %, kill-drop chance %, follower toggle

How you get there

Duck isn't picked from a menu — it's earned from a duck.

  • Vanilla Duck NPCs (role id Duck, never the quest-only Temple Duck) have a rare chance — 3% by default, tunable as Duck-Kill-Drop-Chance-Percent — to drop a Carved Wooden Duck when a player lands the killing blow.
  • The Carved Wooden Duck is a Legendary-quality item. Its Secondary interaction claims the Dao through the same DaoManager.choose chokepoint the Spiritual Root page's element buttons use — identical costs, cooldowns and realm gates to any other Dao pick, just Duck-flavored messages.
  • The duck is consumed only on a successful claim. Every refusal path — disabled, realm too low, on cooldown, not enough Qi, already Duck — leaves it sitting in your inventory.

Two arts

  • Duck's Peck: a radial bill-strike burst that damages everyone within a short radius around you, scaling with your realm.
  • Furious Waddle: a short forward hop along your own line of sight, distance also scaling with realm — a mobility art, not a dash.
  • Both are locked to the Duck Dao and both quack, using the vanilla Duck's own alert-quack sound cue rather than an authored one.

Duck Pond and the follower

  • Duck Pond recolors all 139 of Cultivation's current UI documents in a saturated rubber-duck yellow, forced on for as long as your chosen Dao is Duck and un-choosable from the theme dropdown while it applies.
  • A cosmetic feather-and-quack trail follows any Duck Dao cultivator who is also a Sect member, re-pulsed every 4 seconds and bound by the same aura-visibility settings the base mod's own auras respect.

For server owners

  • One admin section, four settings, all live without a restart: the master toggle, the Dao's own counter-matchup bonus, the kill-drop odds, and the follower toggle.
  • Registered into Cultivation's shared update and build-integrity checks, the same xianxia.dev API every sibling addon reports through.

What it needs

  • Cultivation 0.11.0 or newer — the manifest refuses to load it on anything older.
  • Hytale Update 7 (the Update 7 pre-release, Server API 0.7.0-pre.5.1).
  • Servers still on Update 6 should stay on 0.1.0; earlier versions are listed under your Downloads. Once an Update 7 server has opened a world, an Update 6 server cannot open it again, so back up before upgrading.
  • Server-side only. Your players install nothing.

Version history

    • Built against Hytale Server API 0.7.0-pre.5.1 (the Update 7 pre-release) and requires Cultivation 0.11.0 or newer, the first Cultivation built for Update 7. This version does not run on an Update 6 server — stay on 0.1.0 there. Once an Update 7 server has opened a world, an Update 6 server cannot open it again, so back up before upgrading.
    • No gameplay changes.
